Quick, How do you feel just before a race? A bit nervous, ready to brawl or out of control? All of these feelings are normal. You might even feel a little under the weather. A sure fire way to minimize race day anxiety is to be prepared, be boring and keep it simple.
Make a list of everything that you need to get to the race, what you need in the race and what you need for after the race. By the way, your bike should be tuned and shifting properly the week before not the night before.
Do not I repeat do not change your habits before a race. Do not try to make up for lost training. Do not consume carbs the night before like they are going out of style. Do not change.
Take it easy the week of the race. Keep up with your training plan and nutrition. Do not start reading about new training methods or tactics and expect to put them into practice in the race.
